Garden City RubyConf is announcing 10 Opportunity Scholarships for anyone who wants to be there, but need financial assistance. We encourage students, women and other under-represented groups to apply for the scholarships.

We hit with the first surprise when Ben Orenstein mentioned that he had to cancel his trip to India for GCRC14 because some personal emergencies at his end. We thought of having a Live Video Keynote but then realised they are never as effective as live ones. The interaction with the speaker is very critical for conferences such as GCRC which target small number of audience.

We got 72 proposals through the CFP process. This post is about how we went with the selection of talks.

We hit with a surprise when we heard from Najaf Ali that it would take atleast four months to complete his visa processing. That definitely does not align with conference timeline.

We are excited to announce the tenative schedule for the conference. We are in the process of getting confirmation from couple of speakers on their availability. That has delayed our deadline by some days. We are expecting to have the full program ready by Monday, November 11th. Stay tuned.

GCRC14 is going to see a huge number of foreign attendees. Here are few pointers to help the participants in their visa application process.

Ruby has a very large and vibrant community around the world. The ever growing ruby community is one of its most important strengths. Being visible and active in the community is very essential for every rubyist.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful response to the Call for Proposals! We received 72 talk proposals in total! From all over India, and around the world!

We have received a good feedback on the sponsorship slabs from the community and all the potential sponsors. We felt, there is definitely a huge gap between Associate and Silver Packages. Many sponsors wished we had a slab in between.

All talks at #GCRC14 will be with only one speaker. Except in very special cases.
